Immediate Supervisor/Title: Assistant Dean and Director of Career Services

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary

This position guides students and alumni in developing life-long professional skills. The Advisor will meet daily with current students and alumni in one-on-one appointments, assist with events, present in classes, and develop new career-related resources.
Essential Functions
• Assist students and alumni with planning all aspects of their professional lives – e.g., career research, goal setting, job search techniques, resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing, understanding economic trends, professional etiquette, graduate school applications, job shadowing, finding internships, and on-campus employment
• Maintain an attentive and accurate appointment schedule while remaining flexible for "walk-in" advising times
• Record detailed appointment notes
• Identify, design, and promote relevant workshops and tailored career education presentations to diverse academic audiences
• Contribute to all Career Services events and outreach activities
• Ensure print and web-based resources remain up-to-date
• Complete strategic projects, particularly while classes are not in session
• Assist the Career Services team with assessment efforts
• Promote a positive, supportive, collaborative, and inclusive office environment
• Support the Career Services team as requested

Minimum Qualifications

• An understanding of career programming in a collegiate setting and knowledge of issues and best practices related to undergraduate student career advising are required. Demonstrated experience in college career services is preferred.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Meticulous editorial skills with some graphic design capabilities.
• Ability to research and clearly communicate information to individuals and large groups.
• Demonstrated skill in maintaining effective working relationships with staff, faculty, employers, and alumni.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and operate in a fast-paced environment.
• A willingness to be available for programming and consultation during off hours.
• An understanding and appreciation of residential liberal arts education are required. Prior experience in a liberal arts setting is preferred.


• A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree in an area related to career services is preferred.
