Position Title: Director of Information Technology Services

Position Summary: The Director of Information Technology Services provides campus leadership, vision, and direction for the strategic development and management of information and technology resources to support the mission and goals of the College. The Director will understand and anticipate the pace and direction of technological change and will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to prepare the College to take advantage of those changes. The individual in this position will promote the personal and departmental importance of taking a learning stance, knowing the critical importance of asking "who needs to be consulted" and "who needs to know," and sustain a focus on using information technology to advance the strategic priorities of the College.

Essential Functions (list primary functions of the position)

● Adhere to divisional requirements for compliance with the relevant requirements and standards of SACS for the reaffirmation of accreditation.
● Provides institution-wide leadership for the planning, management, and operation of shared information and communication services, ensuring optimal use, integrity, and security of resources, services, and spaces. Through vision, collaboration, and consultation, leads campus efforts to:
o Understand and enhance the ever-changing quality of users' experiences in learning and teaching, administrative functions, and project development processes;
o Understand and develop the effective use of information systems that includes user access and transition among different information systems, and the advantages of enhanced and effective use;
o Synthesize community input to develop, communicate, and implement a vision for sustaining IT at the College.
● Provides administrative and supervisory oversight to the IT department; establishes and maintains a staffing structure to effectively accomplish goals and objectives, oversees recruiting, hiring, training, motivating, supervising, and evaluating department staff. This includes Desktop Services, Network, System Administration and Storage, Media Services, Administrative Software, and Telecommunications.
● Facilitates and fosters a collaborative, team-based, work environment with a strong commitment to diversity, shared vision and goals, commitment to quality service, and professional development.
● Effectively engages and communicates with faculty, students, staff, alumni, donors, consortia, and other constituencies to advance information and technology in support of College goals, priorities, and needs.
● Stays abreast of trends, developments, and best practices; assists the executive staff in identifying and implementing the most appropriate information and technology solutions for the College.
● Responsible for ensuring and enhancing the security of college information and technology infrastructure resources.
● Servers as a member of the college's Emergency Management Team and ensures that technology is available to support the college's Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities needed upon entry into the position)

● An appreciation for the educational mission of a comprehensive liberal arts college.
● In-depth knowledge of information technology systems, operations, and information security.
● Experience conducting strategic planning.
● Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a strong orientation toward customer service and the ability to communicate technical information effectively to technical and non-technical audiences including students, faculty, and staff.
● Strong leadership skills including problem solving, analytical, and project management.
● Ability to work collaboratively across campus and to develop cooperative-working relationships at all levels of the institution, constituents and the public.
● Familiarity with current, and ability to anticipate future, applications of information technology in instruction and higher education applications.
● Ability to present complex information and data in a coherent fashion.

Education (training / experience)

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred in computer science, management information systems, educational technology, business administration or a related field. Also required is a minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible IT management experience, preferably with at least 2 years of experience in a higher education environment, including budgeting, planning, staff/personnel development and evaluation, and crisis management.
