Position Title: Senior Accountant

FLSA Status: Hourly

Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Controller, this position is responsible for all accounting functions related to contributions, distributions and investment performance of donor-restricted funds, including approximately 300 individual funds within the College's $50 million endowment. This position works closely with the Office of Advancement on recording and reconciling gift revenue. This position participates in producing interim and annual financial statements with other personnel in the Business Office. In addition, this position reconciles various general ledger accounts, prepares monthly reports, and performs various duties as needed.

Essential Functions
1. Reconcile all investment accounts monthly and prepare an overall rollforward supporting interim financial statements.
2. Maintains a spreadsheet-based unitized system to purchase units for new endowed gifts and allocate investment activity to individual endowment funds.
3. Prepare deposits, withdrawals, expenses, quarterly settling and beneficiary payments related to the endowment and/or split interest agreements.
4. Prepare endowment spending annual calculation in accordance with Board of Trustees policy.
5. Analyze endowment expenditures each semester. Discuss and resolve issues with Advancement and Financial Aid.
6. Prepare gift valuations for stocks gifts and submit to Advancement. Distribute proceeds from stock sales.
7. Prepare workpapers and analysis of pledges receivable quarterly.
8. Reconcile Advancement gift records with the general ledger monthly.
9. Assist Advancement with gift accounting issues, while ensuring conformity with FASB and other authoritative guidance.
10. Ensure compliance with College policy and State of Florida statutes as it relates to gifts, annuity, and endowment administration.
11. Act as a backup for payroll inquiries and be able to produce a payroll.
12. Assist in preparation of 1099Rs for Charitable Gift Annuitants. Prepare trust information necessary for trust tax returns.
13. Act as a liaison between Advancement and the Bursar's office.
14. Reconcile other various general ledger accounts, including preparing and submitting journal vouchers.
15. Prepare all related workpapers for interim and annual financial reporting and external audit.
16. Provide backup and perform special projects as needed within the Business Office.
17. Prepare archive records for storage as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities needed upon entry into the position)

1. BS in Accounting or related field.
2. Five years of prior related work experience. Higher educational environment preferred.
3. Knowledge and experience in complex integrated financial systems, preferably Ellucian/Banner.
4. Strong PC skills with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
5. Ability to work independently and recognize what needs to be done to meet objectives with minimal supervision.
6. Ability to improve efficiencies of office related tasks.
7. Ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision.
8. Ability to multi task while ensuring projects are completed in a timely manner.
9. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally and effectively with all on campus.
