Position Description
Assistant Director for Community Standards
Summary: The Assistant Director for Community Standards provides administrative coordination and oversight for the College's community standards policies and procedures and ensures that such policies and procedures are implemented in conformity with the EC-Book, the Eckerd College student handbook. The Assistant Director is also the principal source of student information and education regarding the College's community standards program and conduct policies and procedures. This position has an administrative role rather than a student conduct function.

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Community Standards

Employment Category: Non-Exempt, twelve-month position

Duties and Responsibilities:

o Oversee and coordinate the student conduct process by directing conduct cases to ensure that all conduct referrals are addressed in a consistent and timely manner through appropriate College procedures.
o Organize Campus Safety and Residence Life reports, create cases, and prepare documents for all conduct meetings
o Prepare the agenda and participate in the weekly Community Standards Incident Review Committee Meetings and other meetings related to the administration of the conduct process as necessary.
o Oversee case management, including reviewing incidents and violations, meeting with students involved, making needed referrals, and tracking applicable paperwork.
o Maintain confidential student records, prepare statistical data reports, and create consultative and collaborative partnerships with faculty and staff regarding issues of student conduct.
o Serve as a resource person for faculty, staff, students, parents, and other third-parties and address, within privacy guidelines, inquiries regarding the student conduct process.
o Assist in training of faculty and staff to serve as conduct officers, including Title IX cases of sexual misconduct and/or harassment.
o Serve as the advisor to the Student Community Standards Board.
o Maintain the Maxient Software database to track infractions of community standards, issued sanctions and their completion, and generate reports as needed.
o Serve as a resource for on campus and off campus agencies regarding student conduct history.
o Assist conduct officers in generating necessary documentation.
o Collaborate with the Office of Service Learning to create a referral list of projects, on-campus departments, and off-campus organizations and agencies where students can serve sanction service hours.
o Work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to create and conduct innovative presentations, programs, and brochures for the Eckerd community on issues related to the creation of a responsible and healthy campus climate. These may include assisting with the coordination of themed weeks (e.g.'Alcohol Awareness Week), residence hall community building activities, or programs that highlight the values of the Eckerd College Shared Commitment.

o Supervise the Student Affairs Administrative Assistant to ensure students' compliance with sanctions and to create reports concerning students' conduct history.
o Oversee the annual revision of the EC-Book, Eckerd College student handbook
o Establish a visible and approachable presence on campus through collaborating with Resident Advisors and maintaining published office hours.
o Assist with the training of professional and paraprofessional Residence Life Staff, to include Residence Coordinators (RCs), Assistant Resident Coordinators (ARCs) and Resident Advisors (RAs).
o Assist in the implementation of division-wide events such as Autumn Term registration, Family Weekend, Prospective Student Weekend, and Commencement.
o Carry out such responsibilities as may be requested by the Assistant Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students, or Dean of Students.
o Serve on campus-wide committees, as requested

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
o Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, staff and community members.
o Working knowledge of software applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database management.
o Serves as the primary administrator of the Maxient database system.
o Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
o Ability to handle multiple work priorities, organize and plan work and projects.
o Ability to define problems, collect data and documentation, analyze the information, and draw valid conclusions.
o Ability and experience in working one-on-one with students, particularly regarding issues where conflict or sensitive referrals are involved.
o Ability to counsel, refer and advise individuals and groups of students.
o Knowledge of counseling practices and crisis management techniques.
o Ability to communicate and work effectively with all College constituencies in an unbiased, reasonable, and fair manner.
o Experience creating and implementing training models and programs.
o Demonstrated knowledge of relevant higher education regulations that impact the student conduct process, including but not limited to, FERPA.

o Bachelor of Arts or Science required; Master's Degree in a traditional liberal arts, counseling, or related field strongly preferred.
o The ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism and maturity in handling sensitive information, student interactions, and community relations.
