Job Title: Advancement Associate
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Office of Advancement
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Major Gifts
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Independently and proactively identify and qualify prospective donors'in particular, major gift ($25,000+) prospects'using creative research techniques and electronic searching methodologies
● Write profiles and reports on potential and identified major gift prospects
● Review and monitor electronic and paper resources for information about Eckerd College constituents'alumni, parents, friends, corporations and foundations
● Assess and identify new philanthropic opportunities with existing donors
● Serve as the key point person for the coordination of the prospect management system, working closely with the director of major gifts
● Monitor contact reports for prospect research- and management-related information and record/update pertinent information in RE Next
● Build and execute RE reports and lists as requested to assist gift officers in managing qualified prospects
● Maintain RE records for accurate information on constituents
● Provide administrative support to major gifts team, including donor correspondence and gift processing
● Perform other duties as assigned by the director of major gifts, assistant vice president for advancement, associate vice president for development and vice president for advancement
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
● Excellent communication and verbal communication skills, including ability to synthesize data found in research into clear, concise written research documents, paying attention to accuracy, detail, and pertinence of the information
● Proficiency in conducting donor research, with experience in recognizing and assessing wealth indicators and giving capacity as well as identifying prospects
● Experience with online databases such as LexisNexis, Wealth Engine, Foundation Center Online, Form 990s and SEC Documents, Raiser's Edge
● Knowledge of donor types and an understanding of fundraising processes and donor cycles: qualification, discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
● Excellent organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and prioritize those requests to meet deadlines
● Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel functions such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and multiple-level sorting and filtering
● Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word functions such as mail merge, track changes, and tables
● Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Raiser's Edge database/RE NXT
● Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with all Advancement staff and colleagues across campus
● Knowledge and experience working with a relational database
● Intellectually curious with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
● Willingness to take on new projects and acquire new skills
● Knowledge of prospect research ethics, including statements by APRA and CASE
● Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor's degree required
● 1–2 years of experience preferred in prospect research and/or prospect management or similar positions involving internet-based research, biographical or genealogical research, financial analysis or data management
