Position Title: Visual Arts Coordinator and Gallery Manager

Immediate Supervisor/Title: Collegium Chair
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary The Visual Arts Coordinator and Gallery Manager assists the art faculty in all the necessary functions of the department, included but not limited to the following:

Visual Arts Coordination
• Manage the Visual Arts budget and purchasing
• Assist faculty as needed (mail, copy, scan, occasional typing, and maintain CVA break room)
• Maintain a detailed roster of all VA and IA majors and minors, and update the student alias
• Collect and file all VA/IA rubrics and other evaluations for assessment purposes
• Collect and file thesis invitations, thesis documentation, peer reviews and artist statements
• Maintain department records and archives
• Update web content for the art department site as needed
• Report class lab fees to the business office well in advance, and confirm afterwards
• Oversee department work scholars and student assistants
• Direct facilities and custodial requests
• Manage and schedule requests for non-classroom reservations in the CVA and Cobb Gallery
• Schedule models for drawing, painting and photo classes
• Manage video and digital photo camera and equipment check-out and return
• Sell art materials to students (canvas, mat and foam board, and protective sleeves)
• Public relations: telephone, greet and direct visitors, guide occasional building tours, and liaison with local art venues
• Oversee implementation of hazardous waste handling procedures and monitor studios and classrooms regularly for EPA compliance.
• As necessary attend Emergency Management Group meetings, and follow hurricane preparedness guidelines and procedures

Gallery Management
• Assist gallery director in installing and maintaining gallery exhibitions, gallery publicity (including photographing works to be displayed) and handle sales and artist commissions
• Arrange for and oversee receptions at public gallery events
• Help oversee the college permanent art collection, maintain order in the gallery storage area, handle requests for art for campus offices, and mat and frame works from the collection as needed.
• Assist in developing the permanent collection inventory, including photographing, scanning and processing metadata for digitization
• Oversee hand-delivery and shipping of artwork.

Position Directly Supervises (VA, ceramics, and multimedia work studies)

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities needed upon entry into the position)
• Rudimentary graphic design skills and photography skills
• Familiarity with visual arts media
Education (training/experience): High School diploma or equivalent required; B.A. preferred
