Associate Dean, Continuing Education
Executive and Continuing Education


SUMMARY: This position is responsible for developing and managing budgets and corresponding programs (Conferences, Summer School, Road Scholar, OLLI, PreCollege, Continuing Education Grant and Charitable Gift programs and other lifelong learning programs as deemed appropriate) designed to fulfill the mission and provide fiscal support to the College. This position also directs the operations of the Continuing Education and Conference Center, including managing housing, conference facilities, scheduling, conference support services, transportation, staffing, financial management, marketing and promotion of the Center.


REPORTS TO: VP and Dean of Executive and Continuing Education


SUPERVISES: Director, Conferences and Summer School
Director, OLLI
Program Manager, Road Scholar
Program Coordinator, Continuing Education
Coordinator of Logistics and Registration, Road Scholar
Coordinator, ELS Homestay

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Summer School
Works with the Director to
a. Develop and manage budget.
b. Develop schedule of courses.
c. In consultation with College Council and Dean of the Faculty, develop policies and procedures.
d. Working in cooperation with the Registrar and faculty, determine student needs as they relate to courses.
e. Respond to problems and concerns of students.
f. Promote Summer School both on-campus and off-campus.


2. Road Scholar
a. Develops and manages budget.
b. Manages the development of new programs.
c. Determines yearly schedule (selection of program dates, sites, etc.) and creates long-range plans.
d. Provides professional development opportunities for all Road Scholar coordinators and program assistants.

3. Continuing Education Academic Programs:
PreCollege, H.S. Grant Programs, Middle School Science Gift Program
a. Write and manage proposals for grants and charitable gifts
b. Hire and manage faculty and staff
c. Develop and manage all program budgets
d. Develop and manage marketing plans
e. Write final reports to be submitted to granting agencies


4. Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)
Works with the Director to
a. Develop and manage budget.
b. Develop new programs.
c. Create yearly schedule
d. Develop and manage marketing plans.


5. Conferences
Works with the Director to
a. Develop and manage budget.
b. Determine priorities for use of facilities (housing, classrooms, recreational facilities in summer / Continuing Education Center year round).
c. Develop plan to manage conference needs with Facilities
d. Set fees and negotiate contractual arrangements with conference groups.
e. Manage conference support delivery (housing, meals, meeting space, etc.)
f. Develop short and long-range plans for use of facilities.
g. Supervise summer services (Gym and Pool, Cafeteria, use, classroom use) with appropriate support personnel.


6. Continuing Education Conference Center
Works with the Director to
a. Develop and manage budget.
b. Contract with outside groups.
c. Develop programs and services to maximize the Conference Center and Lodge.
d. Serve as liaison with ELS.
e. Supervise the coordination of conference services with contract groups.
f. Provide leadership for the daily operations of the Continuing Education Conference Center.
g. Direct center facility support functions including cleaning, maintenance and repair and food
services.
i. Direct coordination of Conference Center and Lodge scheduling.
j. Supervise the design and publication of marketing materials.

General Requirements and Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of a Master's Degree in fields that may include Higher Education Administration or Humanities based studies;
  2. Demonstrated ability to create and manage programs and budgets in diverse fields with the understanding of revenue surplus in a non-profit educational institution;
  3. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage diverse teams in an entrepreneurial environment;
  4. Demonstrated ability to create and manage continuing education programs for a diverse audience from middle and high school age students to senior adults;
  5. Excellent writing and proposal/grant writing, interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  6. Ability to make quick and good decisions in a fast-paced environment;
  7. Ability to quickly shift gears numerous times a day and to juggle a wide variety of tasks in a short period of time;
  8. Ability to bring together individuals who are not part of the core team to create innovative programs;
  9. The ability to be measured, adaptable, flexible, self-directed, self-motivated, confident, thoughtful and unafraid to made decisions
