Position Summary (briefly describe the general purpose of the position)
The Web Developer is responsible for design, implementation, maintenance, and security of Eckerd Web servers and sites. This position's primary focus is on the public-facing websites managed by the Office of Marketing and Communications.Close coordination with this department is required to ensure their needs and concerns are addressed in a timely manner. 

The position keeps content management software up to date, including multisite Wordpress installations, custom child themes and all associated plugin software such as Wordfence, on staging and production environments. The position continuously and proactively researches what changes or additions can be made to the websites to ensure maximum security as well as maximum performance for an optimum end-user experience.

The position maintains custom website applications that provide core functionality. These applications pull data from an enterprise resource management system, Banner, to populate content on the websites; they rely upon independent databases and scripts to synchronize data in multiple locations that must be kept secure and running without interruption. Additional applications pull Admission counselor data and calendars into the websites.

This position also works closely with Eckerd network and systems administrators to maintain a firewall, two-factor authentication and SSL certificates on production and staging website environments.
This position is responsible for maintaining a secure versioning system for code changes to staging and production website environments and working with contracted programmers to ensure their changes are tracked, reviewed and deployed in a secure fashion before pushing to production.

The position is responsible for monitoring the status of production websites and, if they go down, responding in a timely fashion to get them up and running again with minimal down time. This position also maintains backups of websites which are quickly restorable in the event of a failure that cannot be otherwise addressed immediately.

This position monitors website and server performance and makes adjusts as required to instances on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to ensure the websites deliver content quickly to end-users without disruption. This includes establishing and maintaining server-side caching and a content delivery network (CDN).

● Maintains website software including Wordpress and associated child theme and plugin software
● Ensure staging and production environments are secure and delivering content at a high performance level
● Recommends new techniques for achieving maximum security and performance of websites
● Maintain integrated, custom website applications and associated databases and scripts
● Maintains a code versioning system
● Monitors websites and restores them in a timely fashion if they encounter security or performance problems
● Ensure optimum server and database setup on AWS, including server-side caching and CDN

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities needed upon entry into the position)
o Proficiency in Wordpress software including custom child themes
o Proficiency in PHP, SQL, Java and Javascript coding standards
o Proficiency in Wordfence security software
o Proficiency in AWS website server and database setup
o Proficiency with code version control systems
o Experience working with CDNs
o Experience in maintaining and setting up domains and DNS records
o Experience working on both Linux and Windows Web Servers (Apache, Tomcat, IIS, Nginx)
o Experience in working with database driven web applications
o Knowledge of HTML5, CSS coding standards
o Knowledge of SSL
o Knowledge of responsive design
o Ability to deal with multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
o Ability to work well in a team environment.
o Ability to solve technical challenges

o Bachelor's degree in a computer-related, communications, writing field or four years of related experience.
o Minimum of two years of professional Web development experience.
