Assistant Professor of Marine Science (Biology), two tenure-track positions to start September 2024. Ph.D. in Oceanography, Marine Science, or related field is required. Seeking broadly-trained scientist-educators who are strongly committed to teaching and student/faculty research at the undergraduate level. Although the area of expertise is flexible, preference will be given to applicants with research applying molecular biological methods (e.g., cellular biology and genetics) to the study of marine organisms. Fields of particular interest include seagrasses, macroalgae, invasive species, harmful algal blooms, and microbes. The teaching component consists of seven courses per year in a 3-1-3 format. Teaching responsibilities will include contribution to the delivery of our regular introductory-level course in Biological Oceanography and an upper-level required course in Marine and Freshwater Botany or Marine Invertebrate Biology, as well as a course in the applicant's area of expertise. Additionally, participation in an interdisciplinary, values-oriented general education program is required, including regular rotation in two Common Core courses and a first-year seminar program. The successful applicant will be expected to secure external funding to establish an active research program that is accessible to undergraduate students and complements existing departmental strengths. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a well-developed plan for establishing a long-term student/faculty research program that complements existing student/faculty programs in the biological and/or geological sciences.
Submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of research interests, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and contact information for three references so that letters of recommendation can be requested, via https://eckerd.hirecentric.com/jobs/. The review will begin on February 1, 2024 and will continue until the positions are filled. Inquiries may be sent to Dr. Amy Siuda, Associate Professor of Marine Science, email: siudaan@eckerd.edu.
Employment will require a successful background check.
