Position Summary
The Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for managing the lifecycle of the library's electronic resources and serials collections, including the acquisition and discovery of digital collections and resources, as well as providing on-going access support and evaluation of the electronic resources collection. This includes the management and daily operations of our databases and serials collections, Primo VE discovery platform, EC
Scholar institutional repository, and our digital collections. This position works collaboratively with the Library's Collection Team, Technical Services, Instruction & Outreach, and Access Services departments to investigate, develop, implement, promote, and manage effective workflows for electronic resources within ExLibris' Alma/Primo environment.
Essential Functions
Electronic Resources Management
- Select, implement, maintain, and promote electronic materials acquired by the library, including ebooks, serials, streaming videos, databases, and library service platforms and develop, review and enforce relevant policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain the library's user-centered web site, in consultation with library faculty, ensuring that it meets minimum accessibility standards for users and promotes the discovery of library resources and services by our community.
- Identify trends and directions in library-related technologies and services.
- Work collaboratively with the Technical Services Librarian to maintain the integrated library system (Alma) and the OneSearch discovery tool (Primo VE).
- Provide guidance and implementation support for the College's institutional repository and digital archives.
- Collections, including digitizing materials and supervising library work scholars and interns.
- Manage the electronic materials budget, including coordinating and negotiating with vendors and consortia to acquire and and maintain online resources.
- Evaluate new and existing offers, ordering and invoicing of new titles, and obtaining license agreements.
- Manage statistical data for electronic resources to evaluate usage and suitability for the college's curriculum.
- Communicate with faculty regarding changes to holdings in library resources.
Instruction and Reference
- Participate in the library instruction program by teaching information literacy for an academic division (collegium).
- Provide both scheduled and "point of need" reference service.
- Remain current regarding the issues and techniques of information literacy, incorporate new technologies and seek constantly to upgrade teaching and research skills.
- Develop guides and other aids to interpret the collection to library patrons and help them formulate effective library research strategies.
- Explore and evaluate new on-line and print resources to determine their suitability for the Eckerd collection.
Faculty and Academic Community
- Serve as library liaison to an academic division (collegium), and as an active member of that collegium, report on library activities to them, ascertain their needs in terms of collection development and services, and offer suggestions of possible resources for inclusion in the library.
- Participate in the campus governance structure by serving on various campus committees.
- Encourage and promote cooperation among libraries by developing good working relationships with librarians at other institutions.
- Maintain currency, nourish professional growth and contribute to advancing the image of the college by actively participating in professional library organizations, publishing endeavors, and/or other library related research activities.
- Teach in the college's general education program on a rotational basis, as needed and as approved by the Director of Library Services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of the electronic resources management lifecycle.
- Previous experience working with integrated library systems (preferably Ex Libris Alma/Primo) is required.
- Current knowledge of and experience with digital technologies and its applications in an academic setting.
- Substantial experience with Windows, PC application software, and Google Apps.
- Web development skills, including experience using WordPress, knowledge of HTML, CSS, and a willingness to learn additional skills, as needed.
- Prior experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
- Must be detail oriented and able to multitask.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work on a team.
- Ability to set priorities and to adapt to a rapidly changing learning environment.
- Sense of humor.
Education and Experience
- MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Minimum of 1-3 years professional experience in an academic library technical services/e-resources division
- Academic background in arts and humanities preferred.
Salary: $68,000
