Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Accounts Payable Specialist to join our accounting and finance team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community. This position works with various stakeholders to help maintain the regular operation of the accounts payable function of Eckerd College with a particular focus on accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
The role requires the incumbent to possess a knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and procedures and the ability to apply that knowledge and College policies to recognize, analyze, and solve problems. The specialist will be skilled in data entry with a high level of accuracy and minimal errors to accurately prepare and maintain required reports, files, and records. An ability to remain organized while prioritizing tasks is necessary for success in the position as well as the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensures timely and accurate data entry of purchasing and payment documents, including purchase orders, invoices, expense reimbursements, wires, and cash advances.
- Schedules and executes the processing of non-payroll disbursements to vendors in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintains accurate and appropriate paper and electronic departmental records, including vendor profiles, to ensure compliance with College, state, and federal policies and regulations.
- Suggests potential improvements to the College's current policies, procedures, and guidelines with respect to accounts payable to continually provide a high level of customer service.
- Interacts with internal and external parties to identify, research, and resolve purchasing and payment questions in a timely and effective manner.
- Assist department supervisor with developing and conducting training for college stakeholders regarding the accounts payable function.
- Performs tasks, analyses, and projects pertaining to the College's vendors and expense accounts.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus 3-5 years of relevant experience in an accounts payable role. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
