The Eckerd College Library in St. Petersburg, FL seeks a Public Services Supervisor. This staff member is student-centered and provides excellent customer service to members of the academic community and campus guests. This position serves as the first point of contact for all library users. They supervise the opening of the library and daytime operation of the Information Desk and work cooperatively with other departments in the library to ensure timely access to library facilities, services, and collections. The position is responsible for the supervision of 20-25 student assistants. The Public Services Supervisor assures the continuity of excellent library service to the academic community in support of the mission of the library and the college.

Key Responsibilities
Library Access and Services

  • Supervises the public services operations including but not limited to timely opening, staffing the circulation/information desk, enforcing building policy, placing facility and technology maintenance requests, and resolving policy questions voiced by students, faculty, staff, and campus guests.
  • Advises students and faculty in the general use of the library catalog and subject databases. Refer research questions to the faculty librarians. Track inquiries received via chat.
  • Collects and processes materials for course reserves to include receiving and returning of materials to faculty, cataloging in the library system, assuring copyright compliance, and maintaining the online reserve materials list.
  • Maintains proficiency with the library's integrated library system, ExLibris Alma/Primo, used for circulation and return of materials. Participate in training for frequent changes and upgrades to the system.
  • Collaborates and communicates regularly with the Access Services Librarian and Director of Library Services to revise library policies, resolve workflow issues, plan and complete projects, and improve services.
  • Provides public service and facilities use statistics to the Access Services Librarian and Director of Library Services on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinates correspondence relating to circulation activities, i.e., overdue notices, hold notices, billing, and reports.
  • Oversees the library shelf maintenance program.
  • Performs minor equipment maintenance (i.e., adding paper and toner to copiers and printers).

Supervisory

  • Hires, supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates 20-25 part-time student workers per semester and provides leadership for the student team to include dealing with student assistant absences and other issues related to relying on a primarily student staffed front line work force.
  • Collaborates with the Access Services Librarian on timely revisions to training materials concerning departmental procedures, the integrated library system, and customer service policies for student assistants.
  • Maintains library student workers payroll and budget in coordination with Career Services.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus at least one year of customer service, preferably in library services.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively use Google Suite.
  • Ability to learn and use new software.
  • Experience with Alma/Primo ILS preferred.

Hours
Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with some evenings and weekends as needed.
