Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Head Softball Coach to join our Athletics team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community. The Eckerd College Tritons are members of NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference with 14 teams competing in a variety of varsity sports.

As Head Softball Coach, you will direct all facets of the program through planning and implementing all training and conditioning of student-athletes, coaching and instruction, recruiting, promotions and public relations, assuring academic progress, budget preparation, administration and management, and scheduling.

The Head Softball Coach demonstrates extensive knowledge of sport-specific fundamentals, techniques, and strategies, and possesses knowledge of NCAA compliance rules. The incumbent must have the ability to identify, recruit, and retain competitive student-athletes and cultivate positive relationships with athletes, alumni, parents, and donors. The position frequently requires prolonged periods of moving around campus facilities and frequently requires after-hours work and travel.

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits eligible position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the softball program including planning and conducting practice/training sessions, leading the team in contests, and developing players both on and off the field.
  • Organize and coordinate all recruitment of potential softball student-athletes in cooperation with admissions and within NCAA guidelines.
  • Monitor the academic progress of each softball student-athlete and provide assistance and tutoring when needed.
  • Hire and supervise assistant coach and volunteer assistants.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain team policies and procedures.
  • Schedule allowable number of non-conference contests, work with SSC on conference contests.
  • Manage the program budget, purchase all necessary equipment and uniforms.
  • Oversee arrangements for away contests including travel, lodging, meals, and athlete supervision and responsibilities.
  • Plan and execute program outreach efforts with campus community, program alumni and families, and local community.
  • Assist Director of Athletics in fundraising efforts, development of the Triton Club Fund, and sponsorships for annual dinner auction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Five (5) years of experience as a softball coach and/or student-athlete at the collegiate level.
  • Valid driver license.
