Eckerd College is currently seeking candidates for the position of Career Advisor to join our Career Center team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community.  In this role, you will assist our students and alumni in developing lifelong professional skills by facilitating one-on-one advising appointments, events, programs, and presentations. You'll also develop career-related resources that can be used by the campus community.

The role requires the incumbent to possess exceptional skills in career coaching and advising with knowledge of holistic approaches to career and life planning. The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population is crucial to success in this role, as is the ability to present information in an engaging manner in a public setting. The Career Advisor will be responsible for independently designing and implementing events for the purpose of guiding students and alumni in their career development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise and coach students and alumni with all aspects of their professional lives (i.e. career research and exploration, goal setting, job and internship searches, resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing, professional etiquette, online branding, and graduate school applications.
  • Utilize Symplicity CSM software (TritonTrack) to record detailed notes on advising appointments, maintain an active advising schedule, and report the use of services.
  • Design and implement educational initiatives (i.e. events, programs, tabling, presentations) and online resources to serve the evolving needs of students, faculty, and the job market.
  • Initiate and complete projects and research, particularly while classes are not in session, in order to advance the strategic objectives of the department, division, and the College.
  • Represent the Career Center on College committees and task forces.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; previous experience working directly with students in a career advising/development capacity. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
