Position Title: Campus Safety Security Officer


Immediate Supervisor/Title: Assistant Director of Campus Safety and Security  

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

 The Campus Safety and Security Officer provides safety and security services which include the implementation and administration of programs that assist the Eckerd College community in maintaining order and/or improving the personal safety of the students, faculty, staff, guests and property of the College.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains a high visibility on campus as directed; always looking professional and exhibiting a pleasant personality in public.
  • Proactively assists students, faculty, staff, and visitors, creating a customer friendly environment.
  • Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
  • Patrols campus property in assigned areas by various means to identify suspicious activity, violations of College rules/regulations and state law, and handles incidents as necessary.
  • Participates in the integration of Eckerd College Safety and Security services into the broader campus community. Works closely with Student Affairs and Residence Life Staff.
  • Treats members of the college community and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Assures compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, College rules and regulations and departmental policies.
  • Promotes positive community service and relations with the entire campus community
  • Enforces safety and fire regulations, state law and College rules and regulations.
  • Responds to all serious incidents, medical emergencies, fires and fire alarms on campus
  • Complies with lawful orders and directives given by supervisors.
  • Prepares all necessary reports in a timely manner.
  • Participates in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Provides crowd control functions at athletic, social and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be 21 years of age
  • Willingness to obtain Basic First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
  • Willingness to wear established departmental uniform while on duty
  • Must be able to perform and meet the physical demands required in this position (i.e., foot patrols, bicycle patrols, climbing stairs, sit or stand for long periods of time)
  • Must be competent with computerized information systems and be able to accurately type reports using word processing software
  • Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills

 Education:

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required, some college preferred.
  • Possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator's License and be able to obtain vehicle insurance.
